1. Bigger file will take longer to upload and view.

2. Some said the common 10-min limit is actually 10:59.

4. Maybe Brooke can upload her 100s hours worth of family videos to YouTube privately, as a backup.

(so she won't face the disaster again like hard disk crash with '800' videos missing.)

(But I recommand her to use Revver or any other sites than YouTube, to keep the a/v quality in tact.)

i found a hole in youtube's system that allows this. as of December 15, 2007 it worked just fine. maybe someday youtube will catch this and fix it.

How to do this?

1. Encode your video into high quality FLV. Sorenson H263 as video codec and MP3 as audio codec, all in FLV file container. just make sure your final video file is smaller than 1GB. software-wise you can use Sorenson Squeeze, Riva FLV Encoder, SUPER encoder, FFMPEG, or any other FLV encoding software to encode your video to FLV.

2. Use a HEX editor to fake duration to 10 minutes, or to anything below 11:00. 11:00 in HEX is:
84A0000000000000

3. If your file is below 100MB, upload like you upload all your other videos. if bigger than 100MB (but less than 1GB) upload using the multi-video uploader...

The disadvantages? yes, you still will have to settle with crappy 320x240 video in the end... no HQ video with stereo audio =P

More facts here:

1. If you are 'Director' before March 2007, like Brooke, you can post videos longer than 10 minutes !

2. If you are 'new' YouTube Directors, too bad, you still have the 10-min limit. (10:59, actually)

3. But don't be sad, you still can post very long videos, case by case, if you write letters to an address I forgot, it looks like longform@youtube.com.

4. Another way is hacking/cheating the system, look at the post above (#4).

5. Many video sharing sites have size limit (100MB, ex.), looks like only Google Video can take very big files.
